- Responsible for all day-to-day activities of the Engineering department employees.
- Managing building projects, handling maintenance and repairs on building equipment, setting and maintaining budgets and planning/scheduling preventive maintenance tasks.
- Supervises, develops and maintains an ongoing maintenance operation for hotel, including refrigeration, heating, plumbing, water treatment, preventive maintenance, hotel rooms, heating units, ice machines, swimming pools, hot tubs, lighting, kitchen equipment, emergency generators, water softeners, switch rooms, roof exhausts, electrical substations, etc.
- Must be able to work independently, have proven leadership skills and be able to train staff on safety and emergency procedures.
- Analyzes and resolves work problems or assists employees in resolving work problems.
- Supervises, counsels, disciplines and motivates all Engineering Department staff.
- Carries out management responsibilities in accordance with the Companys policies, training programs, and applicable laws.
- Establishes standards and procedures for work and enforces Company policies and procedures.
- Ensures all maintenance staff receives adequate training on established maintenance procedures and safety.
- Responsibilities include recruiting, interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
- Implements timely and effective corrective actions when necessary.
- On an ongoing and regular basis, inspects and evaluates physical condition of entire property, including all guestrooms, public areas and pool areas.
- Works closely with other departments on maintenance and repairs issues to maintain a safe environment and guest satisfaction.
- Orders material and completes work assignments on time and by a specified date.
- Performs work within departmental expense plans and assists management in capital budgeting.
- Maintains property by scheduling and supervising painting, plumbing, electrical wiring, landscaping and other related maintenance activities.
- Notifies management concerning need for major repairs or additions.
- Tend to furnaces and boilers to provide heat and hot water for guests as necessary.
- Interprets specifications, job orders and company policies to engineering employees.
- Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules, recommends measures to improve efficiency.
- Attends periodic meetings with General Manager and/or department heads, conducts and/or participates in safety meetings with staff.
- Understands government regulations affecting the propertys operations, ensuring the Engineering Department is operated in compliance with all applicable laws, ordinances, regulations, and requirements of any federal, state or municipal authority.
- Oversees compliance with OSHA standards regarding proper usage, dilution of products, equipment safety and usage as well as blood-borne pathogen precautions and procedures.
- Must be able to communicate with radios and communicate/respond effectively with co-workers and management.
- Must be able to communicate effectively with guests, co-workers and supervisors.
- Ability to deal with irate guests in a calm, professional manner.
- Should have strong computer skills that will allow the individual to be able to use, in a proficient manner, certain Company-issued software programs such as Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel for purposes of communication, budgeting, ordering supplies, and overall management of the engineering function.
- Ability to create charts, graphs and basic formulas in Excel is required.
- Ability to create spreadsheets for analytical data as it relates to the department budget.
- A valid CO drivers license is required for tasks that require driving a Bobcat, forklift, plow truck and other company vehicles.
- Always be aware of chemicals being used, proper usages.
- Maintain a safe working environment and wears appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when using loud powered equipment or machines, chemicals, cleaning supplies or any other items that require PPE.
- Read and interpret documents in English such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from top management, other managers, board of directors, customers and the general public.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, and percentages.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- On occasion be consulted by telephone and/or called in to work on short notice in response to emergency and/or urgent conditions at the property or a staffing shortage.
- Will be an active participant in the Lodge Safety Committee.
- Fluency in English (verbal, written and reading) is required.
- Spanish is preferred, but not required.
- Other duties assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Management of the Assistant Chief Engineer and all Engineering and Grounds employees.
- Education
- High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
- Experience/Knowledge/Certifications
- Minimum of 6 years experience in maintenance.
- Minimum of 3 years of Engineering Department management experience at a hotel or resort of similar size. Similar and/or related experience may be considered.
- Must have experience with remodeling projects.
- Requires building/facility maintenance knowledge, common accepted industry practices pertaining to maintenance, knowledge of budgeting and project planning, and trouble-shooting ability with skills in electric, painting, carpentry, landscaping, equipment, pools/hot tubs and tool usage.
- Certified Pool/Spa Operator (CPO) is required
- Certification may be obtained after hire within 6 months.
