The Flint Hills Technical College is seeking a dynamic, full-time, permanent faculty member to join its innovative and growing Hospitality/Culinary Arts Program, beginning August 2022. This individual will instruct technical college students in culinary and other hospitality/foodservice related courses.
The candidate will have, or be in the process of obtaining/willing to obtain, an Associate Degree, ACF Certifications of CCC or higher, CCE preferred, ServSafe and Manage First Certification, experience in modern trends of gastronomy, large scale catering events, and baking and either five years of recent experience in the field or two years of teaching in the field. The successful candidate needs to have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Bilingual applicants encouraged to apply.
Job Description:
PURPOSE:
The Hospitality/Culinary Arts (HCA) Department provides a positive learning environment of
instruction and student assessment in both classroom and distance learning settings. Attendance at
scheduled committee meetings, professional development trainings and CTSO meetings is required.
In order to respond to the individual needs and abilities of students, and to prepare and support the
student’s lifelong personal growth and economic development, the instructor must work closely with
the staff and administration of the College.
CONTRACT: Faculty Master Agreement
RESPONSIBLE TO: Division Chairperson, Vice President of Instructional Services, and President of Flint Hills Technical College
PAYMENT RATE: According to Master Agreement
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Associate's Degree or willingness to obtain an Associate’s Degree is required.
2. Five years of recent paid employment in the field of instruction, two years of experience in teaching in the field of instruction, or any combination of the two.
3. Experience in modern trends including gastronomy, large scale catering events, and baking.
4. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
5. Computer proficiency.
PREFERENCES:
1. Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from an accredited college/university.
2. Current involvement in related professional organization, such as American Culinary Federation
or National Restaurant Association.
3. Serv-Safe and Manage First Certifications
4. Experience in online learning
5. Knowledge of culinary competition, including SkillsUSA
6. ACF Certifications of CCC or higher (CCE preferred) or willingness to obtain them
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Facilitate the personal, social, and intellectual development of students.
2. Establish a positive learning environment and respond to the individual needs of students.
3. Work effectively with community organizations.
4. Operate all equipment as needed.
5. Promote positive communications with students, staff, parents, and the business community.
6. Display a thorough knowledge of the curriculum and its application in business/industry.
7. Establish and maintain a positive climate for learning through appropriate classroom and laboratory management.
8. Maintain current curriculum and instructional practices.
9. Maintain appropriate, confidential records and provide timely reports.
10. Order and maintain an adequate inventory of material and supplies.
11. Obtain advance approval for all special activities and expenditures.
12. Facilitate an active advisory committee to support the improvement of instruction.
13. Supervise internships, cooperative, and/or clinical settings as needed.
14. Instruct specific classes in the field of Business Administrative and computer applications.
15. Instruct career development and professional skill courses.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
1. Requires prolonged sitting or standing.
2. Occasionally requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials.
3. Requires occasional stooping, bending, and reaching.
4. Must work in noisy and crowded environments.
5. Requires some travel.
