Summary:
Plans, directs, and supervises recreation programs, cultural activities, and special events that can involve thousands of attendees/participants; plans and coordinates the advertising and promotion of special events, general community programs and recreational activities; manages and oversees the daily operation of the three Municipal Pools in the Township; performs related duties as required. Work is performed under general direction from the Director of Recreation and Cultural Affairs, who reviews performance for conformance to departmental policies and procedures.
Duties:
Assists the Director in the performance of departmental duties. Plans, directs, and supervises recreational and cultural activities and events; assigns staff, prepares schedules, registers participants, and recruits and supervises community volunteers. Coordinates scheduling of various recreational and special events and schedules the use of facilities. Handles requests for information concerning programs and events; apprises participants on rules and regulations governing use of facilities or sites; prepares information for inclusion in brochures and calendars of events and regulations of the recreational facilities; prepares reports on activities, permits and schedules; compiles statistical and other data; maintains records and files. Prepares grant applications for programs and events and may solicit sponsors and funding for various programs and events. Oversees operation of the three Montclair Municipal Swimming Pools, including the hiring, training and supervision of all pool staff, pool safety regulations, code compliance and enforcement, budget, pool membership, swim instruction program, ordering and maintaining of supplies/inventory and coordination with Department of Community Services of pool maintenance.
Requirements:
High School diploma or equivalent, and valid New Jersey Driver’s License. Minimum of five (5) years of experience in a related position. Current certification in First Aid and CPR, or the ability to become certified within 6 months of appointment. Bachelor’s Degree in Parks & Recreation Administration, Sports Management, Physical Education or related field preferred; Certified Pool Operator and Pool Director certification preferred. Position requires off hours availability to work nights, weekends and holidays as situations warrant.
Salary: $56,574 per year; includes full benefits.
